Patronage for Cllr Dr. Julie Bradshaw MBE
Councillor Dr. Julie Bradshaw MBE has been appointed Patron of Home-Start Charnwood in September 2011. She is very excited and proud to be part of this amazing charity.
Home-Start is the UK’s leading family support charity. They recruit and train volunteers to support parents with at least one child under the age of five. Their home visiting work is unique in the UK.
The Charity was set up in 1973 and has been so effective and popular that it has extended into 340 communities, as well as overseas. Charnwood scheme was established in 1978. Home-Start Charnwood currently has 60 volunteers who are all parents themselves and bring with them a variety of skils and experience. This means they can support 60 families at any one time, and approximately 50% of families referred either have Post Natal Depression or mental health issues.
Home-Start knows that being a parent can be a challenge for some families for a variety of reasons, and they recognise that not all children get the best start in life. That is WHY they exist.
Dr. Bradshaw’s first duty as Patron was to receive a cheque from Loughborough Grammar School, £400 raised from a non-uniform day – in aid of Home-Start of course!
