The morning of the Fair opening, The Mayor spoke with BBC Leicester’s Ady Dayman on his show:
Local showman liaison, Darren Jones, presented an official Loughborough Fair Bell to the Mayor and the borough to mark 50 years of Charnwood.
The first official Charter for the fair was granted to the Lord of the Manor, Hugh le Despencer, in 1221 by King Henry III. The fair was then held on St. Peter’s Day.
