Charity English Channel Swim to Raise Money for Rainbows
Swimming champion and multiple world record holder, Dr Julie Bradshaw MBE, is encouraging people from across Leicestershire to take part in a charity summer swim to help raise money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
Swimmers of any age or ability are being challenged to take on a 21 mile swim – the length of the English Channel – over the summer at Loughborough Leisure Centre. Swimmers can take part either individually or as a team to complete 1344 lengths over a six week period.
All of the money raised will go to Rainbows, the Loughborough based hospice provides care and support for children with terminals and life-limiting diseases, as well as their families.
There are also a whole host of prizes up for grabs for participants who manage to complete the challenge including swim gear from Aqua Sphere.
Julie, who first swam the English Channel at the age of 15, said: “I am delighted to be part of this event and support Rainbows through it. It will encourage people of all ages to get involved. Swimming is such a wonderful activity and beneficial in many ways. I hope it will raise a substantial amount for the charity who I do all my world record long distance swims for. ”
The challenge began on Monday 13th July and the Mayor of Charnwood, John Capleton, was on hand to kick off proceedings. The challenge ends on Monday 31st August 2015.
