Loughborough Leisure Centre’s 50th Anniversary 14th Sept 2025

On 14th September 2025, Loughborough Leisure Centre held a Community Fun Day to celebrate it’s 50th Anniversary.
There was much going on at the Centre including games such as pickleball and various stalls: Charnwood Arts, Sweeties, Sea Cadets, B Buddies and more.
An Aqua Class took place and had a ‘surprise visit’ from Olly the Octopus whilst Karen and Andy, the instructors were taking the class.
He also had his picture taken with the Mayor and Mayoress Cllr David Northage as well as World Record Swimmer Cllr Dr Julie Bradshaw MBE and Julie Ellerbeck, themselves former Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood.
Many staff gathered for the occasion including those who had been there from when Loughborough Leisure Centre (LLC) first opened its doors in 1975 to over the years.
A Swim Challenge had been run by LLC ie participants had to swim the equivalent of Lake Coniston (5.25 miles) in the pool over a couple of weeks. Cllr Bradshaw picked out prize winners and announced them.
